Registration Q & A
- Why should I pre-register online?
Pre-registration helps the NATSA estimate the number of participants
and prepare conference packages accordingly. By pre-registering online,
you will receive relevant information regarding the coming conference
and this association. On-site registration will be available during
the conference, but we do not guarantee the offer of a conference
package. Therefore, we encourage every participant to pre-register
online. May 20 is the deadline both for online registration and postmarking
of checks. A $10 late fee will be applied to any post-May 20 registration
and postmark payment.
- How to pay registration and accommodation fee?
You can pay by credit card, checking account, or funds already in
your PayPal account through our PayPal payment option* (see list
of countries). Or just send checks to our treasurer. To send a
payment via PayPal, click on the PayPal logo. PayPal will notify us
of any such payment. If you ever encounter any problem with the PayPal
payment option, please contact us at contact@natsc.org.
*Offered
only as a convenience. The Association does not benefit financially
from any PayPal transactions.
- What are included in the Accommodations & Meal Package?
Rooms and meals are included in this package. We have signed housing
contracts with International House (IH) at the University of Chicago.
IH provides single-bed rooms with blankets for our conference participants.
If you decide to stay at IH, you should bring your own personal cleaning
and care items. There are very few double-bed rooms in IH. Therefore,
if you would like to register for double-bed rooms, please make a
special request during pre-registration. We will do our best to satisfy
your needs without guarantee.
- How should I arrange my accommodations if I can stay only part of
the conference?
NATSA provides room arrangement services for conference participants
from 3-6 nights. IH at UC offers the NATSA the 15% discounted in-group
rate. If you choose to stay only part of the conference (less than
3 nights) or longer than 6 nights and would like to stay in IH, please
contact IH and book rooms yourselves; the group discount rate is not
offered in such cases. IH's phone number is : (773)753-2270 and please
also visit IH web site at www.uchicago.edu/adm/ihouse
for more information. If you plan to stay longer than 4 and less than
6 nights, please specify the dates you plan to stay on the special
request section of the form during pre-registration. In any case,
you can also arrange your accommodations and meals yourself. There
are many hotels in Chicago, and some local information is posted on
our web site that would help you arrange your trip.

Conference Papers Q & A
- How can I get access to conference papers?
The NATSA will make 2002 conference paper abstracts available to
public but does not carry out any conference paper distribution service
this year. We will encourage paper presenters to bring hard copies
of their papers to Chicago. If you are interested in any specific
papers, please make your request directly to paper authors in Chicago.
Also, authors' email addresses are not openly displayed on-line and
available only to association members in order to protect addresses
from commercial abuse. If you need such information, please attend
the conference or become an association
member.

Travel Grants Q & A
The general rules for applying are listed below:
- Who can apply?
Those whose papers are accepted to present and those who serve as
panelists and discussants in the NATSA 2002 Conference.
- How and when to apply?
All presenters and discussants need to complete the Travel Grant
Application Form (available during conference) and return it to the
NATSA treasurer, Yen-ling Tsai. Please note, the travel grant applies
only to airfare. The expense for car, train, bus or other ways of
transportation will not be considered. Airfare receipt is required.
(i.e. original flight coupon, AND the travel agency's invoice, or
any print document if you purchase your tickets online)
- How much will the grant be?
The Travel Grant is limited. In 2001, we gave maximum of $300 for
each presenter and $350 for US discussants and $400 for international
discussants. Those whose airfares are under the limit will be paid
according to their airfare expenses. However, those whose airfares
are beyond the limit of the grant will be paid up to the limit of
the Travel Grant. Book your ticket early to get good bargains is generally
encouraged. For co-authored paper the same upper bound limit applies.
In the event of a participant having multiple roles, only the most
generous travel and accommodations reimbursement scheme will apply.
The 2002 Travel Grant Policies:
A. For both presenters/discussants airfare reimbursement:
Domestic ones will be reimbursed up to $250 and international ones
up to $300.
B) For thematic panelists:
1) 50% off standard rate for three-day accommodations/meal
Plus
2) Airfare reimbursement:
The domestic ones will be reimbursed up to $250 and international
up to $300.
- How will I receive the grant?
The grant will be given to you by check at the conference site in
Chicago.
- If I fly to New York or another city first, can I still get the grant?
The grant will be given for the purpose of participating in the conference.
It will not cover your expense for other purposes. If you fly to New
York first, the travel grant will be given on the consideration of
your flight from New York to Chicago.
(Note: NATSA reserve the right to deal with certain
special cases)
