The 1997 North America Taiwan Studies Conference

The Preparatory Council for the 1997 North America Taiwan Studies Conference

Purpose
The Preparatory Council aims to promote Taiwan studies, to enhance interaction between the academic community in Taiwan and its counterpart in North America, and to facilitate communication among graduate students and scholars currently at work in Taiwan studies and related areas.

Among the objectives of the Preparatory Council are the holding of an annual Taiwan Studies Conference in North America and the publication of the research papers collected from the annual conferences.

Subject

Any subject related to Taiwan studies. Papers on the following subjects are of particular interest:

  • Taiwan's History and Culture
  • Taiwan's Political and Economic Transformation
  • Social Structure, Social Movements and Social Policies
  • China Studies

Paper Style

Manuscripts must be typed (in English or Chinese), double spaced, and include an abstract of no more than 150 words. In general, the Conference considers papers up to 35 pages in length. Manuscripts should be prepared following ordinary academic formats. We recommend The Chicago Manual of Style.

Selection of Paper

Papers are selected through a process of blind readings administered by the editorial board of the Preparatory Council for the North America Annual Taiwan Studies Conference. All readers are scholars from relevant fields. In general, papers judged to contribute to the development of Taiwan studies are highly valued.

Deadline

March 31, 1997: for the submission of a one page abstract;
May 10, 1997: for the copies of papers(3 copies) and a disk containing the article in Word or Text format. Please send abstract and paper to: Professor Ching Long Ko.
